US DOJ asks judge to investigate potential conflicts of interest of new Lopez lawyer

( May 16, 2025, 23:49 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Department of Justice asked a Nevada federal judge today to look into potential conflicts of interest of healthcare staffing executive Eduardo Lopez's newly retained counsel. In a court filing, the government said that shortly after trial, where a jury convicted Lopez for wage-fixing and fraud, Lopez retained Dan Goldfine as his new defense counsel for sentencing and appeal. The DOJ said Goldfine previously represented Rhonda Jacobs, who "was part of a number of conspiratorial communications, was interviewed by the FBI on October 30, 2019, testified in the Grand Jury, and was identified as a defense witness for whom Defendant sought immunity."Court document attached....
