Law regulating cinemas' use of movies must be changed, New Caledonian watchdog says

( May 7, 2025, 02:18 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A proposed law designed to set prices to be paid by cinema operators to film distributors in New Caledonia may limit competition between the French Pacific territory’s cinema owners but could be seen as justified if it undergoes significant changes, the antitrust regulator said. In a review of the law, which has been put forward by New Caledonia’s government, the Autorité de la concurrence de la Nouvelle-Calédonie has recommended seven changes to the legislation, which include a review of the broader legislative framework under which cinemas operate in the territory.
