Google moves to dismiss Chegg’s US antitrust claims over AI answers

( May 5, 2025, 22:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Chegg's US antitrust complaint alleging Google leveraged monopoly power in the general search services market to coerce Chegg and online publishers to make their content available to Google fails because the plaintiff does not claim to compete with Google, nor has Google obtained market power in Chegg's implausibly pled online educational publishing market, the search giant told a US judge. In addition to lacking antitrust standing, Chegg's claims that Google engaged in unlawful reciprocal dealing is implausible as Google obtains content from websites for its search index based on any given publishers' own choices to make such content available, Google said in its motion to dismiss filed to the US District Court for the District of Columbia.See attached file....
