Thailand's competition law reform incomplete, OECD peer review finds

( May 2, 2025, 09:35 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Thailand’s competition law enforcement remains limited despite structural reforms introduced under the 2017 Trade Competition Act, according to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development’s, or OECD, latest peer review. While the law established the Trade Competition Commission of Thailand, or TCCT, as an independent regulator, the OECD found enforcement to be constrained by limited budget, human resources and institutional fragmentation. Key challenges include the exclusion of state-owned enterprises, lack of authority over ex-post mergers and the criminal-only treatment of cartels and dominance abuse. The report recommends legal reforms, improved procedural transparency and increased institutional capacity to align Thailand’s regime with international standards. The full report from OECD is attached....
