Defense needs competition-friendly procurement approach, German body says

( April 23, 2025, 14:22 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Defense procurement needs urgent transformation to get rid of red tape while ensuring competition, the Monopolies Commission, an advisory body to the German government, said today. Europe cannot afford procurement processes that stifle innovation, especially in strategic enabler technologies such as AI, cybersecurity and unmanned systems. Without a robust competition framework, there is a risk of "entrenched monopolies" that will hamper Europe's security capabilities for decades, Chair Tomaso Duso said.
