Samsung accuses ZTE of SEP divestment ‘scheme’ in US antitrust complaint

By Melissa Ritti ( February 26, 2025, 12:32 GMT | Insight) -- Samsung Electronics Co. and two US subsidiaries yesterday alleged that ZTE Corporation has violated the Sherman Act and California’s unfair competition law through an “aggressive and unreasonable” patent enforcement campaign playing out around the world. The latest salvo, filed yesterday in California federal court, purportedly follows similar antitrust action initiated by Samsung abroad, and accuses ZTE of divesting its standard essential patents to nonpracticing entities to skirt its obligation to license those same patents on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory terms. Samsung seeks an order barring the partially state-owned ZTE from "further anticompetitive conduct."The global legal battle between Samsung and ZTE Corporation has reached the US....
