South Korea's game companies face stricter regulations

( January 21, 2025, 06:16 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea's game industry faces stricter regulations as the country's government approves amendments to the Game Industry Promotion Act, introducing special legal provisions for violations of probability disclosure requirements in games. The new law shifts the burden of proof to game companies in damage cases and allows courts to award up to triple damages for intentional violations of probability disclosure rules for in-game items. To further protect consumers, it reduces plaintiffs' burden of proving exact damage amounts and establishes a dedicated center under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to handle user complaints and remedies.
