China reserves right to act over new US Russia, Iran sanctions law

Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 and reserves the right to take measures to protect the legitimate interests of Chinese companies, the Ministry of Commerce said in a statement on Saturday. The ministry said China opposes unilateral sanctions without a UN mandate or basis in international law, as well as secondary sanctions targeting other countries over their dealings with third parties. The comments followed the US signing of legislation on Friday that strengthens sanctions against Russia, extends certain Iran-related sanctions and allows tariffs of up to 100 percent on countries that import Russian oil or natural gas. China conducts normal trade and economic cooperation with countries on the basis of equality and mutual benefit and opposes interference or coercion by third parties, the ministry said.The statement follows (in Chinese). ...
