Microsoft, OpenAI didn't violate digital copyright law, US appeals court says

A three-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit concluded that while the plaintiffs have standing, they failed to state a claim under the DMCA because their allegations showed that Copilot and Codex do not “remove or alter” copyright-management information from a copy of an existing protected work, instead creating new works that never contained that information.
