UK needs AI law and oversight body to tackle risks, lawmakers' committee urges

( September 14, 2026, 08:16 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The UK government should introduce dedicated legislation on artificial intelligence, prohibit uses of the technology incompatible with human rights and create an independent statutory oversight body for AI, Parliament’s Joint Committee on Human Rights urged in a report on Monday. The committee also called for prior approval of high-risk systems and mandatory duties across AI supply chains.
