Robot vacuum makers urged to enhance privacy compliance in South Korea

( September 14, 2026, 05:19 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Major robot vacuum makers have been recommended to strengthen compliance with South Korea’s privacy rules, following a preventive inspection of the latest models sold in the country by five major brands — Roborock, Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Ecovacs and Xiaomi. The Personal Information Protection Commission said Monday that it identified shortcomings involving the legal basis for processing personal data, user consent, cross-border data transfers, retention periods, local representatives and security measures including access controls and encryption. The PIPC found no significant risks in the overall collection, transmission and storage of video, audio, photos and mapping information by the robot vacuums. The regulator is planning another review of new features in the latest robot vacuum models in the second half of 2026. ...
