OpenAI, Microsoft clash with news publishers over AI copyright harm

But news publishers said the harm is already here in the form of AI companies dodging licensing fees, siphoning traffic and using journalism to generate answers that can replace the real thing, according to their competing motion.OpenAI and Microsoft asked a New York federal judge on Friday to find that using copyrighted books and news articles to train large language models is fair use, arguing that years of discovery have failed to turn publishers' and authors' predictions of AI-driven market harm into evidence of actual harm....
