By Mike Swift ( August 26, 2026, 00:50 GMT | Insight) -- Lawyers for the 29 states suing Meta Platforms over claims that it deceived users and regulators over the safety of Instagram and Facebook showed a federal jury in Oakland, California, a series of internal documents that the states say showed that Meta knew the safety tools it produced were being adopted by only a small share of teens on Instagram, and that teens on the platform were more likely to see harmful content than adults. Instagram head Adam Mosseri took the witness stand in the bellwether federal trial, defending Meta's commitment to transparency for users, even as the states showed the jury details of an internal chat in 2023 where Instagram employees complained about company lawyers redacting critical teen safety information going to Mosseri and other executives to avoid litigation risk.Instagram's algorithms sent content to teen users about eating disorders, suicide, bullying, hate, violence and nudity at a much higher rate in recent years than to adults, even as company lawyers scrubbed those previously unreported statistics from company documents to avoid legal scrutiny, a federal jury in California heard Tuesday....
