Brazil fines TikTok over minors’ privacy failures

( August 25, 2026, 12:42 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Brazil’s privacy watchdog has fined TikTok 153.7 million reais, or nearly $30 million, for failing to protect minors’ personal data. The National Data Protection Agency’s investigation stemmed from a complaint alleging non-compliance with the country’s General Data Protection Law in 2021. The ANPD found irregularities in two categories: the “feed without registration,” available to any user without the need to create a TikTok account, and the “feed with registration,” linked to a profile registered on the social network. The company must also implement a compliance program to protect users under the age of 18 in Brazil. This is the first major sanction imposed by the ANPD on a company under the data protection rules.Press release follows (in Portuguese):...
