Amazon asks US appeals court to revisit case against Perplexity AI

( August 18, 2026, 20:10 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Amazon told a US appeals court panel that a recent decision in favor of Perplexity AI degrades website owners' ability to set the terms on which "powerful, fast-evolving, and potentially destructive AI agents may enter their secure systems, exposing owners and the public to the rogue actions and unintended consequences that website proprietors are entitled, and best positioned, to guard against." Amazon asked the court to rehear its case over access to Amazon's website by Perplexity's Comet AI, arguing that reversing the lower court's ruling on the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act claim goes against precedent by not deferring to the previous court's fact finding and refusing to apply a previous Ninth Circuit decision.
