NCAA must face hockey players' US antitrust claims, judge rules

( August 6, 2026, 16:38 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The National Collegiate Athletic Association was denied a motion to dismiss US claims accusing it of illegally deterring players from playing in the Canadian Hockey League. District Judge Geoffrey W. Crawford found that the amended complaint sufficiently defines the market to clearly assert an anticompetitive effect. “Because the pool of scholarship-caliber players is relatively small and stringer programs are well known, it is plausible that a coach or other knowledgeable observer could identify which players are legitimate professional prospects,” Crawford said.
