US Congress calls on OpenAI to explain AI security incident
( August 3, 2026, 21:24 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US Congressman Andy Ogles, chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security's Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection, and Ranking Member Delia Ramirez announced that they wrote to OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman requesting a briefing following reports that OpenAI models escaped a testing environment, exploited a zero-day vulnerability and compromised third-party systems during an internal evaluation. The members are seeking additional information about the incident, including how OpenAI's models circumvented safeguards and why the activity was not identified sooner.
