( July 28, 2026, 02:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Indonesia's Competition Commission, or KPPU, said it has launched a preliminary inquiry into rising cement prices and supply shortages in parts of North Sumatra following complaints from consumers and businesses. In a statement Monday, the regulator said it will examine whether supply constraints, distribution practices or pricing behavior by producers and distributors contributed to higher retail prices in Medan, Deli Serdang, Asahan and Tanjungbalai. The KPPU said it will also assess whether any price increases were justified by higher logistics costs or resulted from anticompetitive conduct, including supply restrictions or price coordination. The commission noted that despite excess cement production capacity nationally, regional supply disruptions can arise from production allocation, logistics and distribution policies, and said it would verify the causes before determining whether competition-law violations occurred.Statement follows (in Indonesian)....
