Vietnam issues draft data security law for consultation
( July 23, 2026, 07:28 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security on Thursday released the draft data security law for public consultation until Aug. 5. The draft retains the proposed four-tier, risk-based data classification system despite concerns from government agencies and other stakeholders about overlaps with existing data and cybersecurity laws, and sets out protection requirements for each category. It would allow cross-border transfers of corporate internal data without prior approval in specified circumstances, while still requiring companies to submit annual data security impact assessment dossiers. The proposed law would prevail over conflicting data security provisions in existing legislation and is expected to take effect on Dec. 1, 2027.The draft bill is attached (in Vietnamese)....
