Hapag-Lloyd's bid for ZIM cleared by Australian watchdog
( July 22, 2026, 06:34 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Hapag-Lloyd's proposed acquisition of Israel-based container-shipping company ZIM Integrated Shipping Services has been approved by Australia's competition watchdog. The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission on Tuesday said the companies overlap in the supply of container liner-shipping services between Asia and Australia, but found the merged business would continue to face competition from several larger shipping lines. The regulator said the transaction is unlikely to substantially lessen competition in any market, noting Hapag-Lloyd has no Australian freight-forwarding business while ZIM has only a limited presence in that downstream market.Statement follows.
