Australia's Qantas didn't contravene privacy laws, data-breach probe finds

( July 16, 2026, 05:11 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Qantas Airways did not contravene Australia’s privacy laws, the country’s privacy regulator said following its preliminary investigation into the airline’s 2025 data breach, which exposed the personal information of five million people. In a statement published on Thursday along with a report, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner said that the information obtained during the preliminary inquiries did not reveal any failings in the steps taken by Qantas to protect the personal information it held or to ensure the third-party contact center-provider it uses complied with the privacy laws. The regulator said the available evidence did not support a finding that a breach of privacy law had occurred. The statement said that it wouldn’t be appropriate for the privacy watchdog to commence a full investigation or take further action at this stage.Statement follows. Report is attached....
