Default social media curfews, autoplay curbs confirmed for older teens in UK

( July 14, 2026, 21:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Social media platforms in the UK will have to impose midnight-to-6am curfews by default for 16- and 17-year-olds, and must automatically disable autoplay and infinite-scroll feeds for these users, the UK government said in a statement on Tuesday. But over-16s should be able to disable the automatic protections, as the government said measures should “strike a balance between giving older teenagers greater safeguards online, while still allowing them to change their own settings if they wish.” Ministers also promised to bring forward a package of measures to help children use AI chatbots safely.Statement follows....
