( July 13, 2026, 09:15 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Children under the age of 13 shouldn't be allowed unsupervised access to social media and other digital services, including AI companions, a report commissioned by the European Commission said. The report on child safety online recommended the introduction of effective systems to verify age, and to underpin safety by design and age-appropriate approaches. The burden of proof should be shifted to social media and other digital services providers to demonstrate their products and services are safe for minors.
