Italy faces first complaint over US bank data transfers

( July 10, 2026, 11:53 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: AAA — the Association des Américains Accidentels — has filed the first complaint in Italy challenging transfers of banking data to the US tax authority under the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act. AAA said in a statement that the transfers violate the EU's General Data Protection Regulation because they occur without evidence of tax evasion, and don’t provide sufficient safeguards once the data reaches the US. The complaint follows a Belgian privacy ruling against similar transfers, and comes as the EU Court of Justice considers whether FATCA complies with the GDPR.Full press release below:...
