Indonesia tightens enforcement of biometric SIM registration

( July 6, 2026, 08:17 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, or Komdigi, has instructed mobile network operators to stop activating new SIM cards using only national identity and family card verification and instead require facial biometric verification for all new registrations. In a statement Friday, the ministry said it has also asked the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration to disable identity and family card verification for SIM registration after finding that some operators continued activating new subscribers without biometric checks despite a nationwide requirement that took effect on July 1.Statement follows (in Indonesian)...
