US DOJ, FTC urge state AGs to probe high gas price antitrust, consumer abuses practices

( July 3, 2026, 15:33 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division and the Federal Trade Commission have urged state attorneys general to investigate potential antitrust and consumer protection violations contributing to high gasoline prices. In a joint letter, the agencies encouraged states to use their own enforcement powers to pursue companies suspected of manipulating retail fuel prices, colluding in petroleum markets or engaging in price gouging. The federal enforcers said they are closely monitoring petroleum markets and warned they will use all available enforcement tools to address unlawful conduct, while also directing consumers to report suspected violations through the DOJ and FTC complaint channels.See full statement. ...
