US ATF cancels contract for location data after facing congressional questions

( June 26, 2026, 15:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) terminated a contract with the data broker Penlink for its Webloc location data product, after facing questions from Senator Ron Wyden, an Oregon Democrat, and Representative Michael Cloud, a Texas Republican, the lawmakers said. The agency canceled the contract for the product that scrapes users' locations from commercial advertising technology systems, and is reviewing other contracts to make sure they are not relying on "adtech-sourced data," they said.Statement follows below:...
