The renewed focus could accelerate plans for an online safety law requiring stronger age verification, content moderation and platform accountability, with a senate inquiry on child online safety set to resume on July 1.The fatal school shooting in Tacloban City has intensified scrutiny of children's exposure to social media, online gaming and other digital platforms, with lawmakers and regulators in the Philippines weighing tougher safeguards for minors and greater obligations for technology companies.What began as a criminal investigation into Monday's attack at San Jose National High School, which left three students dead and at least 20 others injured, is rapidly evolving into a broader debate over the role of online platforms in shaping youth behavior and the adequacy of existing child-protection measures.Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signaled openness to legislation regulating violent online content after reports that one of the two teenage suspects, aged 14 and 15, had been exposed to violent online games. The administration's position follows a decision by the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center, or CICC, to temporarily block access to the game GoreBox while authorities investigate whether online content contributed to the attack.Officials have emphasized that no direct connection has been established between the game and the shooting. However, investigators have expanded their review beyond gaming activity.Philippine National Police investigators are examining the suspects' digital footprint after discovering gun-related content and videos involving firearms and shooting techniques on one teenager's social media accounts. Authorities are also reviewing reports that the suspect had prior exposure to firearms and had visited a shooting range before the attack....
