Trump administration regulators should continue to prioritize antitrust enforcement within the cattle and beef sectors to counteract decades of consolidation, namely through use of the Packers and Stockyards Act, including by "carefully evaluat[ing] the expansion of vertically integrated production models within the cattle sector," Farm Action said in a white paper outlining its recommendations. The federal government should also "clarify that producers seeking relief under the [Packers and Stockyards Act] Act are not required to demonstrate harm to competition across an entire industry in order to challenge unfair, deceptive, discriminatory, or anti-competitive conduct," Farm Action said.
