Samsung Heavy Industries’ consent-order request to be reviewed in South Korea

( June 10, 2026, 03:42 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Samsung Heavy Industries’ request for a consent order to settle allegations of Subcontracting Law violations has entered the review stage in South Korea. The Korea Fair Trade Commission said Wednesday that it has decided to initiate the proceedings, after finding that the shipbuilder’s proposed remedies and support programs primarily satisfy the legal requirements for the process. According to the KFTC, Samsung had long-term framework agreements with subcontractors performing ship-block assembly and processing work at its shipyard, and there were instances where individual contracts for specific projects were issued with delays. Samsung proposed measures to improve contract management and subcontracting practices, as well as 11.3 billion won ($8 million) in support programs for subcontractors and workers, including holiday and vacation allowances, welfare benefits and skilled-worker assistance programs.The statement is attached (in Korean)....
