Chinese business group opposes US Section 301 forced-labor tariffs

The statement followed a June 2 determination by the Office of the US Trade Representative that 60 economies had failed to implement or effectively enforce bans on imports made with forced labor. China, including Hong Kong, was placed in the group facing a proposed additional tariff rate of 12.5 percent. The council said the investigation seeks to apply US domestic standards and unilateral rules to other economies, lacks a basis in international law and conflicts with multilateral trade rules.
