Tennis players group loses bid for Wimbledon, French Open access in US antitrust case

( May 22, 2026, 18:11 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A New York federal judge declined to order Wimbledon's organizer, the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), and the Fédération Française de Tennis (FFT) to grant tournament access to the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA). PTPA and a group of current and former players have accused tennis governing bodies and Grand Slam organizers of operating a cartel that suppresses player pay and blocks new tournament competition. Earlier in May, the PTPA asked the judge to issue an order "preserving the status quo by allowing PTPA to have credentials to player areas" at the 2026 French Open and Wimbledon and to stop the defendants from retaliating against any named plaintiff. In denying the plaintiffs' request, US District Judge Margaret Garnett cautioned the defendants that she may "consider their undisputedly retaliatory conduct in assessing any similar motions in the future or any claims" that they are taking actions to improperly influence class members' participation in this lawsuit. Full docket entry follows. ...
