EU automakers lobby backs lawmaker’s push to weaken post-2035 CO2 rules

By Louis de Briant ( May 13, 2026, 10:59 GMT | Insight) -- Europe’s auto industry has welcomed proposals from European Parliament rapporteur Massimiliano Salini to weaken the EU’s post-2035 CO2 targets for cars and vans, including a plan allowing manufacturers to meet 10 percent of the overall target through fuel credits and 7 percent through low-carbon steel credits.
