Vietnam finalizes AI implementation decree, relaxes incident-reporting timelines

( May 7, 2026, 07:51 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Vietnam on Thursday released the final decree guiding implementation of its AI law, clarifying requirements for AI risk classification, content labeling and incident reporting. Decree 142 ties high-risk systems to a prime ministerial list still under preparation, with scale of impact remaining the main classification criterion. It also requires clear labeling of AI-generated content while leaving display formats to deployers and assigning technical guidance to the Ministry of Science and Technology. Compared with earlier drafts, the decree eases incident-reporting timelines, requiring preliminary reports within 72 hours of discovery of “serious incidents” and within five working days for other incidents.
