UK car sector calls to be in scope of EU’s industry plan

( April 16, 2026, 00:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders is urging the EU to revise its proposed Industrial Accelerator Act to ensure the UK automotive sector continues to be treated as a key partner under the “Made in Europe” rules, it said in a statement on Thursday. The SMMT says that excluding UK-built vehicles and components from EU incentives would harm a highly integrated €80 billion EU-UK automotive trade relationship and disrupt supply chains. Limiting access to green incentives could reduce production, increase costs and slow the transition to electric vehicles, the group argues.The statement follows....
