USPTO rolls out advanced AI tools as hiring ramps back up

By Nick Robertson ( March 19, 2026, 21:29 GMT | Insight) -- US Patent and Trademark Office commissioners said at an IP conference Thursday that the office will begin deploying prior art search and pre-examination AI tools to patent and trademark examiners in the coming weeks, the latest advancements in the office’s technology push. The office also plans to hire about 900 patent examiners this fiscal year and 1,100 next year, they said.The heads of the patent and trademark divisions at the US Patent and Trademark Office said Thursday that examiners in both fields will soon be given advanced artificial intelligence tools to help them make examination decisions quickly....
