EU-Mercosur safeguards for agricultural products adopted by EU governments

( March 5, 2026, 12:37 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The 27 EU member states on Thursday formally adopted a bill that implements the bilateral safeguard clauses of the EU-Mercosur Partnership Agreement and the EU-Mercosur Interim Trade Agreement for agricultural products. These rules aim to strengthen protections for farmers in the EU by allowing safeguard measures to be applied in cases where imports from the four Mercosur partners threaten to cause serious harm to producers within the bloc. The rules will apply 20 days after publication in the official journal of the EU.The statement follows....
