South Korean builders face KFTC review over alleged subcontract violations

( February 25, 2026, 03:10 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Four South Korean construction companies are facing a review by the country's competition regulator over alleged violations of the subcontracting law tied to industrial-safety clauses that may have shifted safety costs and liabilities onto subcontractors. The Korea Fair Trade Commission said Wednesday it has sent an examiners' report to POSCO E&C, KR Industrial, Dasan Engineering and NC Construction and submitted the case for commission deliberation. According to the watchdog, the suspected clauses include terms requiring subcontractors to bear compensation, legal liability or certain safety-related equipment costs, alongside other alleged breaches of subcontracting law. Investigators proposed corrective orders, fines and criminal referrals, but the regulator stressed the report does not bind the commission’s final decision.The statement is attached (in Korean)....
