Netflix-Warner deal is 'vertical,' better for labor than Paramount deal, Netflix CEO says

( February 19, 2026, 23:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos noted during a Feb. 18 television broadcast that his company doesn't operate "a theatrical studio," unlike Paramount Skydance, its rival bidder for Warner Bros. Discovery, according to a transcript of the news program submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission the following day. "We do not have anywhere near the production capacity and capability that Warner Brothers does," Sarandos said. "We do not have a third-party television production unit. What we do share is HBO and Netflix. And what I’d say is that those are very complementary businesses. This is very much a vertical merger. And I’d say if you know, if 80% of the members of HBO have a Netflix subscription, I think that’s a really strong case that this is a complimentary business and this is a vertical merger."See SEC filing excerpt....
