Japan aims for speedy budget ratification, PM Takaichi says in re-appointment address

( February 19, 2026, 02:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in her re-appointment address late Wednesday stressed continuity and reiterated her policy goals, starting with the expedited ratification of the draft budget for the next fiscal year, which begins in April. Takaichi added she hoped to pass quickly other laws that had been slated to go in effect from April but did not explicitly mention the data privacy law's amendment. She said it was her party's goal to amend the pacifist Constitution that experts have criticized as hampering cybersecurity, as well as the Imperial Household Law, which only allows male heirs to accede the throne despite the existence of very few living princes. Statement follows (in Japanese)....
