Bulgaria, Austria told to appoint methane bodies or risk EU legal action

( January 30, 2026, 12:04 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Bulgaria and Austria have been told by the European Commission that they could face legal action if they do not appoint national authorities for monitoring and enforcing the EU's methane rules within two months. The Methane Regulation aims to improve measurement, reporting, and reduction of EU methane emissions in the crude oil, natural gas and coal sectors. Both countries missed the deadline to notify to the commission of the names and contact details of their methane authorities by Feb. 5 last year, it said.Statement follows....
