Google to pay $135 million to settle US Android data-appropriation litigation

( January 28, 2026, 19:30 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Google has agreed to pay $135 million to settle litigation that the company's Android operating system illegally appropriated some users' cellular data. "Under the proposed Settlement, Settlement Class members will receive both monetary payments and significant injunctive relief," the plaintiffs told a federal judge in a court filing in San Jose, California. "The proposed Settlement establishes a $135 million non-reversionary fund from which Settlement Class members will receive distributions. All Settlement Class members will be eligible for a pro rata payment from the settlement fund," and Google will also make injunctive changes requiring Google to disclose that Android "secretly appropriates cellular data paid for by Plaintiffs." See attached document....
