Canada publishes details of major China trade deal

( January 16, 2026, 16:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The office of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney published the details of a trade agreement with China, which includes Beijing lowering tariffs on Canadian canola seed to 15 percent starting March 1, also the date China will not impose anti-discriminatory tariffs on Canada's canola meal, lobsters, crabs, and peas until at least the end of 2026. Canada said it will increase investment opportunities with China and allow up to 49,000 Chinese electric vehicles in at a duty rate of 6.1 percent.
