Italian TV operator Rai gets GDPR fine for broadcasting minister’s private call

( October 27, 2025, 11:04 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Italian broadcaster RAI was fined €150,000 for breaching data protection laws, including the EU's General Data Protection Regulation, the Italian data watchdog said in a statement dated Oct. 23 but published Monday. Broadcasting a private call between the then culture minister, Gennaro Sangiuliano, and his wife on the program Report in December 2024 violated the GDPR’s data minimization rule, the DPA said. Currently, a public dispute continues between Report's host Sigfrido Ranucci and the Italian DPA, which affirmed its independence in several statements last week.Decision attached (in Italian). ...
