Second construction company fined in New Zealand's first criminal-cartel case

In a statement on Thursday, the New Zealand Commerce Commission said that following the sentencing of Munesh Kumar and his construction company MaxBuild in December 2024, the Auckland High Court determined a fine of NZ$595,000 for the second company involved in the conduct. The company has been granted interim name suppression. The regulator added that due to the company’s inability to pay the amount, Judge Sally Fitzgerald ordered a fine of NZ$30,000, “which was all it could pay.”The full statement follows:...
