Submit a New York Law & Community Guest Post

Law360 reviews guest submissions for its New York Community Pulse section that publicizes attorney events, milestones and achievements. We do not pay for guest posts nor charge for publishing.

Our editors are looking for short write-ups about activities, including charitable events, celebrations, mixers and networking events, relevant to the legal community in New York. We will also accept submissions about promotions, awards and recognitions or non-work-related achievements of legal professionals as well as obituaries. The community section is a place to read about how your peers are doing and hear about upcoming social events.

Artificial intelligence tools may be used in preparing submissions. The author or submitter is responsible for ensuring that all information, images and captions are accurate, authentic and suitable for publication.

Event and award recaps should:

Be 100-250 words.
Use a casual, conversational tone.
Focus on events or programs that are less than 30 days old.
Include at least one photo with a caption (see photo and caption tips for more details).
Attribute all quotes.
Some examples of events of interest: lawyers putting on a public music performance; lawyers participating in a charity run; a dinner or reception where a lawyer is being recognized or honored; an office anniversary; a judge's retirement.
Not be press releases.

Social event notices should:

Have the event organizer's name, sponsors, where and when the event is taking place, a brief description of the event and cost.
Be submitted at least 30 days before the event.
Include an image of the event organizer's logo to use in place of a photo.
Be for events that are open to the broader New York legal community and not members-only.

Obituaries should:

Be 250-500 words.
In the first paragraph, state the person's full name, most recent title, date of death and age. Ex: Homer L. Deakins, co-founder of Ogletree Deakins Nash Smoak & Stewart PC, died July 7 at age 90, after decades of helping shape the firm's values of honesty and transparency.
In subsequent paragraphs, write about the person's major professional accomplishments and community involvement.
Include a recent headshot of the person.
Have attribution for all quotes.

Photo captions should:

Be at least one complete sentence.
Include the name of the event and where and when it took place and the names and titles of the people featured.

Please provide a source for the photo and make sure you have permission from them to publish.

Photo tips:

Take photos where there is natural lighting and avoid using a flash. If it is too dark, move to a well-lit area. Keep the light sources behind you and not behind your photo subject(s).
Do not zoom in on your phone because this degrades image quality. Move closer to your subject if needed.
Take horizontal and vertical shots from different angles and leave space around your subject(s) for cropping.
Try to get action shots where people are talking, laughing or socializing.
Before you take photos, clean your camera lens and make sure your camera settings are set to the highest possible quality.
Photos should be color and high resolution with a minimum width of 400 pixels, but a width of at least 800 pixels is preferred.

Once a guest post is accepted for publication:

Law360 proofreads and copy edits the post.
Law360 alters headlines - length and tone - to fit our newsletters.
Law360 does not send edited posts back to authors for review before publishing.

Once a guest post is published by Law360:

You will be notified and sent a PDF.
Law360 may be unable to honor requests to modify it, including for reasons of employee hires or departures, etc.
The author retains copyright, but Law360 reserves the right to republish parts or all of a post indefinitely without any royalty payments.
