EU power capacity mechanisms should be cleaner, more efficient, watchdog says

( November 20, 2025, 11:25 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Mechanisms to ensure there’s always enough electricity available to meet demand in Europe should be cleaner and more efficient, the EU’s energy watchdog ACER said on Thursday. Nearly €11 billion was spent across the bloc in 2024 on a fragmented set of security-of-supply measures, the agency said. ACER urged governments to remove barriers to distributed energy, disclose fossil-fuel support, improve EU-level coordination of capacity planning and auctions, and strengthen regional cooperation on crisis preparedness.Press release follows.
