Apple still failing to address child sexual abuse risks, Australian watchdog says

In a statement on Thursday, the Australian eSafety Commissioner said its new transparency report found that tech giants, including Apple, Google, Meta and Microsoft, are still failing to address safety gaps in “detecting and preventing” child sexual exploitation and abuse. The regulator said some of the key risks highlighted in the report include inadequate detection of live online child abuse in “commonly-used video calling services” including Apple’s FaceTime, Meta’s WhatsApp and Microsoft’s Teams. The report also found that companies lack sufficient proactive detection of newly-created child exploitation material.Statement follows. Report is attached....
