South Korean creative industries demand better legal protections from AI companies

( May 14, 2025, 06:23 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Fifteen South Korean organizations representing creative industries today called for stronger measures to protect their work from unauthorized use by artificial intelligence companies. In a joint statement, they urged revisions to the basic AI law to impose obligations related to the use of copyrighted content. They demanded that the law require AI developers to disclose the data used in model training and abide by the Copyright Act, and establish compensation mechanisms for the use of copyrighted content. The 15 organizations include the Korean Broadcasters Association, the Korean Writers Association, the Korean Fine Arts Association and the Directors Guild of Korea.
