Amazon, US FTC tell US appeals court booksellers do not belong in monopoly case

( August 7, 2024, 22:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Amazon and the US Federal Trade Commission told a US appeals court that it should uphold an order that denied the American Booksellers Association leave to intervene in a monopoly case brought by the FTC, saying that any claims the association has against Amazon are different from those brought by the agency. The FTC said that while it alleges that Amazon has monopoly power in the online superstore market, the ABA contends that Amazon “exercises monopsony power — i.e., market power as a buyer — in a market for books, and that it uses this power to coerce publishers into selling books to Amazon on favorable terms unavailable to independent booksellers.”See below. ...
